Sad to say negative things about the food, but this is a repeatable experience; for both breakfast and dinner. As Springtown grows, there likely will be some competition opening up and Howell's Cafe is not going to fare well against anything else.
And highly recommend it as a place you will want to experience!!
Western type eating place. People are nice, so are the Waitresses. Very pleasant atmosphere. Good food and good selection. Lots of parking.
I really want to like this place being a hometown, local establishment, but I can't say anything too impressive about it. Been here a few times and this is the last. Our waitresses were attentive, I will say that. My coffee was rarely empty which is a huge positive for me, but coffee was weak and watery. The orange juice was decent with some pulp, leading me to believe it wasn't canned juice concentrate so that's good. As far as the food goes, it was sub par. It took almost 40 minutes for us to get our food. Meal ordered was only a thin steak and eggs so it's not like food wash intensive labor (maybe 5 minutes of actual grill time). The steak came out cold, and even less than flavorless. The "home fries" were dried out (as in sitting under a warmer or something for far too long) and over cooked and again lacking flavor. Biscuits were not any better than Chicken Express, gravy was packet mix gravy, and was also bland in taste. Bacon was not worth the $3 for 3 thin measly pieces of bacon, not even good bacon either. Tasted similar to turkey bacon. The eggs were sunny side up and actually good. Just the right amount of runny.
I pass through Springtown regularly. We spotted this cafe a few weeks back and gave it a try. They make excellent hamburgers and the service is good. Price is reasonable. I tried their pan fried steak which is really just a chicken fried steak. It also was good.
I highly recommend this place! I eat here at least once a month, it is usually busy, staff is always friendly and I have never had a bad meal. The prices are good too!
Great family restaurant! Been ran and operated by the same family for over 50 years!! Whether you just want a cup of coffee, a glass of ice tea to cool off or if you're ready chow down?? They offer a menu with something for the the whole family!! They have the Best chicken fried steak around and Homemade pies!!The best staff always makes you feel like your at HOME or Grandma's???
